What is Google Pay?
Google Pay is the fast, simple way to pay in millions of places - online, in stores, and more. It brings together everything you need at checkout and keeps your information safe and secure. You can pay with your Android device and using an eligible Ahlibank Debit and/or Credit Cards. Google Pay can be used everywhere contactless payments are accepted.
How do I get Google Pay on my Device?
Google Pay may be preloaded on select devices. If your device does not have the app, simply download it from Google Play. Google Pay requires that you sign-into your Google account before you register any credit/debit cards. During setup of Google Pay, you will be prompted to create a Google Pay PIN, pattern, or password. For select devices running Google Marshmallow 6.0 or later, you may use your fingerprint to verify transactions.
How is Google Pay secure?
Google Pay protects your payment info with multiple layers of security, using one of the world's most advanced security infrastructures to help keep your information safe. When you use your phone to pay in stores, Google Pay doesn't send your actual credit or debit card number with your payment. Instead, a virtual account number is used to represent your information - so your card details stay safe.
Who can use Google Pay?
All Ahlibank Debit and Credit Card holders using Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled Android Lollipop 5.0 and above devices can use Ahlibank Pay.
The Near Field Communication (NFC) is the technology which allows your Smartphone to communicate with the terminal at any merchant accepting contactless transactions. Instead of inserting or swiping a card, payments can be made by placing the contactless Card or phone near the contactless payment terminal at stores.
To enable Ahlibank Pay, how do I know if my Android device has NFC?
All Android devices with Android Lollipop 5.0 and above are NFC enabled. You can additionally check for the NFC tab under your phone's Settings Menu.
How does Google Pay work?
Google Pay uses Near Field Communication (NFC) to make contactless mobile payments. This ensures that Google Pay will work everywhere contactless payment are accepted.
Near Field Communication (NFC) enables devices in close proximity to communicate without any physical contact. Payment transactions using NFC technology can be completed by simply waving the NFC enabled device on contactless terminals.
Can Google Pay be used to make online purchases?
Yes. Google Pay can be used for online/e-commerce payments (via apps and Google Pay on web). Visit Google Pay About for more information.
What should I do if I lose my original payment card?
If your card is lost or stolen, please contact us immediately on +974 4420 5222 . Your physical card will be blocked and a new card will be sent to you. Since the payment cards on Google Pay are digital versions of your physical payment cards, you need to remove the original payment card from Google Pay and register the replacement card.
Will my Google Pay information still be on my device if it is formatted?
No. Formatting your device will remove all payment cards registered on your device.
What should I do if my device is lost or stolen?
If your device is lost/stolen, please contact us immediately on +974 4420 5222 and we can block your card on Google Pay. We recommend that you also register for and use Find My Device. This will allow you to find, lock and delete details on your phone if it is lost or stolen.
Does Google Pay have access to my bank accounts?
No. Google Pay does not have access to your bank accounts.
How many cards can I register into Google Pay?
You can register up to 6 cards in Google Pay. (Credit Cards, Debit Cards)
How can I add my Ahlibank Cards on Google Pay?
It's simple to add your Card to your compatible Android device:
- Open the Google Pay app on your device and tap the "+" sign. (If you do not have the app, you can download it from the Google Play Store.)
- Add your Card manually by entering your Card information or taking a picture of your Card
- Verify or enter the additional information such as Cardholder Name, Expiration Date and Security Code (CVV)
- Read and accept the Terms and Conditions for adding a card to a digital wallet by touching AGREE TO ALL.
- Enter the Authentication Code received and touch SUBMIT
- Once complete, your card is ready for use in Google Pay
How can I make a payment with Google Pay?
You can use your Android device to make contactless payments with Google Pay wherever contactless payments are accepted. Just look for the contactless and/or Google Pay symbol at checkout and be sure that NFC is turned on your device.
To make a purchase, wake up the device and hold it near the contactless reader until your device beeps or vibrates and a checkmark appears on the screen indicating your purchase is complete. You may be prompted to unlock the device first by providing your PIN, passcode, pattern or fingerprint
How can I change my default card on Google Pay?
The first card added in Google Pay would be the default card for payment. It will show as the first card in the list at the top of the screen. To change your default card:
- Open Google Pay
- On the lower right, tap Cards
- Tap the card you want to make your default card
- Tap Set as default
- You can also open the Google Pay app, swipe left at the top to find the card you want to make default, then tap Pay with this card.
Do I need to be connected to Wi-Fi or my cellular data network to use Google Pay?
You would need an internet connection to add cards / disable cards from Google Pay and to check card available balance / limit. To make Google Pay transactions, you do not need to have a cellular data or Wi-Fi connection. Please note that Google Pay may require you to periodically login to the app and connect to the internet with your device to keep the app active.
How do I choose which card I want to make a payment with?
The first card you add to Google Pay becomes your default payment card and will remain so unless you change it. To change your default card, or to make a payment using another card, drag the desired card to the front of the wallet.
How secure is Google Pay?
Using Ahlibank cards with Google Pay is secure. There are number of security features Google Pay transactions have. Some of them:
- Google Pay is safer than using a traditional credit or debit card. Every transaction Google Pay requires you to authenticate with your fingerprint or your passcode.
- Your card number and identity aren't shared with the merchant, and your actual card numbers aren't stored on your device - instead a unique Token number is used.
- All transactions are monitored by Ahlibank's risk and fraud detection systems
- If your phone is lost or stolen, you can go to Find My Device to suspend or permanently remove the ability to pay from your device with Google Pay. Alternatively you can call us and delete the card from your lost/stolen phone. Your physical card can still be used.
Will I still earn rewards and benefits on my card when I pay with Google Pay?
You will get all the benefits, rewards and protection that your Debit or Credit Card currently provides when you pay with Google Pay.
I am unable to add/use my card on Google Pay. What should I do?

Are there any charges for Google Pay?
No charges for using Google Pay.
How will I know a transaction was successful?
After completing a payment using Google Pay, payment confirmation will be displayed on your mobile screen. Additionally, you will continue to receive transaction alerts through SMS on your registered mobile number.
How many transactions appear on the Google Pay?
You will receive an immediate notification after each transaction made using Google Pay. When you open the card in the Wallet, you will only see the latest transaction made. When you navigate to the transaction tab (tap on your card in the Wallet to display) you will see your last 10 transactions. You will be able to see all transactions through the respective card statement in the Mobile Banking app.
Can I continue to use Google Pay if my physical Credit / Debit card is due to expire?
You can continue to use Google Pay till your card expiry date. Once you receive and activate your renewed card, you will need to add it into Google Pay.
What happens with Google Pay if my physical credit/debit card is temporarily blocked or suspended?
Your Google Pay transaction will be declined if your card is blocked or suspended.
Can I continue using Google Pay if my physical Debit / Credit Card has been replaced?
If your old card was blocked when you placed a request for replacement, you will need to activate and add your new card to continue using Google Pay.
Is there anything I need to do if I sell/give away my device or upgrade to a newer model?
All data on your phone should be deleted before selling/giving away your device. You should also delete all cards you have added to Google Pay. You should also remove your card if you temporarily provide your device to someone else; for example if you need it repaired. If you replace or update your device, you will need to add your card(s) to Google Pay again.
Can I use Google Pay if my physical credit/debit card is lost or stolen?
If your card is lost or stolen, please call Ahlibank immediately on ++974 4420 5222 to report the same so we can block the card and replace it. This will ensure that there are no unauthorized transactions on your card. After we block your card you will not be able to use Google Pay. Please remember that you will remain liable for all transactions on your card until the time of reporting the loss to the bank. Please refer to the terms and conditions of card use on our website.
If I disable all my cards from Google Pay, does that cancel my physical cards or can I continue to use them?
Removing cards from Google Pay will have no effect on your physical cards. You can continue to use your physical cards as you normally would. You can add your credit and debit cards back into Google Pay at any time.
My wife has a supplementary card. Can I enroll her card in Google Pay on her mobile?
Yes, you can. Follow the same steps to add her Supplementary Card into Google Pay but please note that since your mobile is registered to our system, you need to share Authentication code with her to verify the card. Once added, she can use her mobile to make payments with her supplementary card.
Can I configure Google Pay on multiple devices?
Yes, you can configure and use Google Pay on multiple devices.
The cashier asked for the last 4 digits of the card, but the transaction still did not go through. What should I do?
In the event you are asked to provide the last 4 digits of the card when you make a Google Pay transaction, you should provide the merchant with the last 4 digits of the virtual account number or token, as that was the account number used in the purchase. You can locate the last 4 digits of the virtual account number in the Google Pay app on the Card details associated with the card you are using for your purchase, just tap on the card image to access the number.
How can I remove my Ahlibank Card from Google Pay?
- Open the Google Pay
- At the bottom right, tap Cards
- Tap the card you want to remove
- Scroll down, then tap Remove Card
How can I return a purchase if I used Google Pay to make the purchase?
To return something you bought with Google Pay you'll need your store receipt, just like you would for any other purchase. If the merchant asks you to swipe your card, simply hold the back of your phone to the contactless payment terminal. For some returns, you might have to provide the last 4 digits of your virtual account number. You can find your virtual account number on the card details screen in your Google Pay app.
Will the card image in Google Pay match my physical card?
The card image may not be an exact match. Keep in mind this doesn't affect how your cards work with Google Pay.
How do I keep my device and card details secure?
- Never leave your device unattended
- Use passcode or fingerprint recognition
- Change your device passcode if you are doubtful anyone else knows it
- Only register your own fingerprint and do not allow anyone else to add their fingerprints to your device
- Please be aware of unsolicited messages asking you to reveal any personal or financial information, to allow access to your devices or to install software
- Contact us as soon as possible if you suspect any unauthorized use of your device, if it is lost/stolen, or if you think your details have been compromised
- Register for and use Find My Device. This will allow you to find, lock and delete details on your phone if it is lost or stolen
- Make sure your contact details are up to date with us so we can get in touch with you quickly should we need to

- There may be insufficient funds or credit limit available to make the transaction
- The merchant does not accept Contactless payments. Not all retailers accept Contactless payments yet. Please use another payment method such as your debit or credit card with Chip and PIN authorization.
- If you do any of the following on your device, all cards in the Wallet will be deleted:
- Sign out of Google Account
- Remove Passcode/Fingerprint
- Formatting the device
